Here At Home - Change Makers in the U.S.

This page is dedicated to those wonderful individuals who dedicate their time and energy to making the world a better place. After 12 years in financial services sales where life was busy, and the goal was just to increase revenue and get one more deal in and make quota, it was time to fill my soul with more passionate work and hobbies. I was so disconnected from what I wanted and what I loved that when asked where I saw myself at age 60, I could not. There were no hopes or dreams, then.

My quest to find the answers to what I wanted started first with art classes, which I loved and tapped into enjoyments I didn't know existed and a rediscovered a love of writing. As I started expanding my experiences and social circles, I kept meeting people who were going interesting things to help people: The bartender who re-vamped used clothes and held fashion show fund-raisers to aid and empower women. The vendor rep had a side business teaching battered women about make-up. Eventually, I met Aaron Ross of PebbleStorm and I were starting a business and as part of our corporate structure wanted 10% of our profits to go to Kiva. It was the first I'd heard of Kiva, which give microloans to women in 3rd world countries.

Once I started swimming in the conscious entrepreneur pool, it was surprising what I found. There's an entire sub-culture of people and organizations seeking to help people either find themselves, their passions or to heal deep wounds. A friend once said to me, "I don't want to be famous. I never want to miss the extraordinary that exists in the ordinary people." The world is filled with more good people than with bad, we just don't hear about them on TV or on most next casts.

Here's a list of them. My vision is to have these stories make it into the mainstream media as examples of what is being done right, what's positive and what's inspiring!
